April 6, 2003 - The dreaded ride home. The plan is to head north on highway 16, then east on I-20. I was running late - my group had to wait for me. Hey, it wasn't on purpose! I'm sure it was a subconscious thing. My inner-self did not want to leave!
The hotel parking lot full of bikes, no "cages" dared to enter our domain:
Some morning pictures before checking out:
Finally, I headed out with Chickiefly, Skip, Drake, Ed, and Pilgrim. It drizzled at the motel while we were preparing to leave. Then it rained for about the first 30 miles of the ride. I had never ridden in rain before and had to slow down to feel safe. The group slowed too. Bikers do things like that for each other. :-) Thankfully, the rain stopped and we had sunshine the rest of the way back. We left Pilgim, Chickiefly, and Skip in Llano where they headed to breakfast. Ed, Drake and I rode on. We stayed on 16 and the time passed quickly.
Here is a great shot of Drake and his dad, Ed, my riding buddies. I rode with them everyday. They took good care of me. They look like mild-mannered gentlemen and act like it too, but each has some wild tales of days gone by.

A couple of shots on the way home:
We stopped in a town called De Leon for gas and I took a look at the map. "Ooooh, hey guys," I said, "we could head east now and make it to Stephenville just in time for lunch at Hard 8!" Needless to say it wasn't difficult to get them to change the route and soon we were having great Bar-B-Q for lunch. My spirits were lifted with the good food, especially since Ed bought it. Thanks!
The last pictures of the trip at the Hard 8 "Hawg Pen":
The last leg home was beautiful riding between Stephenville, Glen Rose and Granbury. At one point, I opened it up to try to find 100 mph and egged on Drake to speed up too. Of course, he passed me with ease. Then, not to be left out, "Fly-Daddy" Ed blew by us both on his Harley. Yep, some day I'd like to try motorcycle racing, but not today. Instead I was ready for a hot bath and my own bed. I made it home safely and passed the next few days with a big, fat grin on my face. Can't wait til next year!
